Alan is a craftsperson of the senses
Alan came to whiskey his own way — as a pastry chef, as a sommelier, and as a bartender. Each chapter sharpened his palette and his instincts, teaching him how flavors behave, where character comes from, and how the senses relate to memory and emotion.
Along his path, Alan was mentored by industry legends, including a stretch working alongside whiskey icon, Dave Pickerell, who helped guide him in the art of blending and his love of rye.
On the technical side, Alan blends for smoothness. On the artistic side, he aims for soul.
Alan works closely with grain farmers, distillers and barrel house managers to craft whiskeys that go beyond taste and aroma. He pursues flavor profiles that capture specific moments and sense memories, such as sitting on a porch at sunset in July or gathering with family during the holidays. “When a memory feels fully represented in a whiskey, I know I’ve created something unique.”
