Freezer Door Old Fashioned

Conspire with your freezer to create a multi-serve batched in-bottle Old Fashioned designed for hosting or an easy end-of-day pour. It starts by pouring out some of the whiskey to create space for the sweetener, water and bitters.
This recipe yields approximately 12-14 servings from a 750ml bottle.

Ingredients

1 (750ml) bottle of Redemption Bourbon or Rye Whiskey

4 oz real maple syrup

3 oz filtered water

1 oz aromatic bitters, such as Angostura or for an extra twist use Black Walnut bitters

Recipe

Prep the bottle: Pour out and save 8 ounces of whiskey from your 750ml bottle. Save this for another use or enjoy some on the side.
Add the ingredients: Using a funnel, add the maple syrup, water, and bitters directly into the whiskey bottle.Mix the cocktail: Cap the bottle tightly and give it a few gentle swirls or shakes to combine all the ingredients.
Chill: Place the bottle in the refrigerator or the freezer door* for at least 4 hours, or ideally overnight. This is a critical step because pre-diluting with water removes the need to stir the cocktail with ice, which would over-dilute it.
Serve: Pour 2-3 ounces of the chilled cocktail over a large ice cube in a rocks glass.
Garnish: Express the oil from a fresh orange peel over the drink by twisting it and dropping it in.

* If your freezer allows, store the bottled cocktail in the freezer door. This area is typically less cold than the back of the freezer, and is the perfect temperature for ready-made cocktails. Please Note: if stored in the back of the freezer, it could turn out slushy.
